Approach

Installation title : III (ce que nous édifions)

The exhibition project created for the 10th NBCS invites us to reconsider monumentality as a constantly evolving phenomenon that shapes its environment and is, in turn, also shaped by it.

Monumentality, often considered a quality in the fields of architecture and art history, remains an abstract concept. The term monument refers to the object itself—memorial, architecture, work of art—while the notion of monumentality can be seen as the matrix of relationships between an object, its environment and the people who experience it.

The objects constructed in the exhibition space gradually reveal their presence. Despite their imposing stature, they are above all endowed with the performative ability to activate our relationship to space, to open us up and expose us to our environment. This artistic creation examines variations of our most common experience of monumentality; it is not a static image, but rather a site to be explored, delicately showing itself over time.
